Dr. B.C. Choudhary (Chair)

Dr. Choudhury is a coastal, marine, and inland wetland habitat ecology and resource management specialist, with over 30 years of experience. He retired as a senior scientist, professor, and Head of the Endangered Species Management Department at WII (Wildlife Institute of India). He is currently the Regional (Asia) Co-chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commissions (SSC) Marine Turtle Specialist Group, and Crocodile Specialist Group, in addition to being a member of various other SSC groups. He is member of the Zoo Management Evaluation Committee of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), the Research Advisory Council of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology (SACON) and the Andhra Pradesh State Wildlife Advisory Board. He serves as an advisor to various programmes implemented by UNDP (United World Development Programme), WWF India, and BNHS. He is a visiting professor at WII, and the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.

Dr. Nanditha Krishna

An environmental, historian and writer, Dr. Krishna is a Professor at the University of Madras. From 1981, she served as Honorary Director of the C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation and was elected President in 2013. She subsequently founded its constituents, including the C.P Art Centre, C.P.R Institute of Indological Research, Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centre for Children, The Groove School and C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre (with the MoEFCC, Government of India). She is President of the Conjeevaram Hindu Educational Society (SSKV Schools and Women’s College) and member of the governing body of Blue Cross – India, and editorial board of the Indian Historical Review, Indian Council of Historical Research.

Dr. Erach Bharucha

A surgeon by profession, Dr. Bharucha has been engaged in environment conservation for over 50 years, as a nature educator and wildlife photographer. In 1993 he developed BVIEER (Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research), for which he currently serves as Director. He has been a member and executive of respected conservation institutions in India, including BNHS (Bombay Natural History Society), WWF (World Wildlife Fund) India, and WII (Wildlife Institute of India).

Dr. Yashwant Thorat

Starting his career with the Reserve Bank of India, Dr. Thorat went on to serve as Executive Chairman of the Dryland Farming Commission, Chairman of the Agriculture Universities Recruitment Board (Government of Maharashtra), Director of Tata Chemicals Pvt. Ltd and as Chief Executive of the Rajiv Gandhi Trust. He was associated with the Planning Commission (Government of India) for the design and implementation of the 10th and 11th Five Year Plans. His current appointments include Adjunct Professor at the Yashwantrao Chavan School of Rural Development (Shivaji University, Kolhapur), Secretary General for the Pravara Rural Education Society, Executive Committee Member of the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha and Director, Britannia Limited.

Mr. R. Mukundan

Mr. Mukundan is the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Chemicals. An engineer from IIT Roorkee and alumnus of the Harvard Business School, he joined the Tata Administrative Services in 1990. Spanning a 26-year career with the Tata group, he has held various roles and responsibilities within the chemical, automotive and hospitality sectors. He serves on the executive committees of various industry forums including CII (Confederation of Indian Industries), Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Employers Federation of India and All Indian Management Association.

The C-SCAPES Secretariat is housed in Mithapur, Gujarat, and coordinates the implementation of all projects and initiatives. The C-SCAPES team comprises of:

Vivek Talwar

Having superannuated from the Tata Group in 2018, where he drove Business excellence organizational culture and sustainability in Tata Power and Tata Chemicals, Vivek Talwar is the Founder Director of Chrysalis, a Goa-based consulting organization that works in the space of Organizational Transformation, Organizational Culture building, Business Excellence, Sustainability and Envisioning. He is also the Co-Founder of Sensible Earth, a Goa based Centre for Sustainability. He is Advisor to the Tata Business Excellence Group in the areas of Business Excellence and Affirmative Action. Vivek is also a Trustee on the Boards of Antarang Foundation, Head Held High and Yara India Trust, organizations involved in career focus for the underprivileged children, livelihood opportunities for youth from deprived backgrounds and overall socio-economic development of rural communities respectively. Vivek supports many conservation causes in his home state, Goa, and across the country, and has been co-opted into the think- tank by several reputed foundations and societies that work in the fields of environment conservation, social responsibility and sustainability.

Nisha DSouza

Nisha supports the development and implementation of the C-SCAPES programme strategy. She is the Founder and Director of EcoNiche, a conservation consultancy based in Goa. She has a BSc. Marine Sciences and an MSc. Wildlife Health and Population Management from the University of Sydney (Australia), and an MPhil. Conservation Leadership from the University of Cambridge (UK). She has worked with the Wilderness Society, and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the Small Grants Officer (India) with the Asia-regional Mangroves for the Future (MFF) programme. Through EcoNiche she works with diverse partners across India, on projects related to marine and coastal biodiversity loss, climate change and socio-ecological resilience. Nisha is also Advisor – Conservation Impact for Terra Conscious (a responsible coastal tourism conservation enterprise based in Goa) and Mentor with the Vahani Scholarship Foundation.

Dr. Dhaval Vargiya

Dhaval worked as a Program Officer with Bharti Vidhyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research (BVIEER, Pune), specifically with the collaboratively-run C-SCAPES and BVIEER Green School Program. His PhD. is on the wetlands of Porbandar, Gujarat with RK University, Rajkot, where he studied heavy metals and pesticide toxicity as well as population dynamics of waterbirds. He is the founder of the Mokarsagar Wetland Conservation Committee – Porbandar, that works for the wetlands of Porbandar. His doctoral research as well as conservation awareness drive among local communities and government have helped recognise Mokarsagar Wetland Complex, Porbandar internationally as a Key Biodiversity Area. He volunteers with various citizen science initiatives, including as state reviewer for eBird, an initiative of Cornell University, USA, and state coordinator of the Asian Waterbird Census. He is also an Executive Committee Member of Bird Conservation Society, Gujarat and consulting editor of Flamingo, bulletin of Gujarat birds. He has discovered several new avian species for Gujarat and India, including Siberian Thrush, Jounin's Petrel and European Honey Buzzard. Dhaval has presented research papers in international and national conferences and published more than 50 articles in various journals and bulletins.

Chirag Solanki

Chirag worked as a Program Officer with Bharti Vidhyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research (BVIEER, Pune), specifically with the collaboratively-run C-SCAPES and BVIEER Green School Program. He has an M.Phil. and B.Ed from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. He has been studying the coastal birds and waders of Jamnagar and Dwarka for the last 20 years. His long term observations of the Crab Plover have been internationally recognized. He has published several articles in national and international magazines and journals. He volunteers with local organizations like the Lakhota Nature Club and Birding or Nothing in Jamnagar. He has been recently selected as a reviewer for the Saurashtra region for eBird, an initiative of Cornell University, USA. Chirag has also worked as a naturalist with several tour operators. He won the Birdathon organized by Saevus magazine in Jamnagar, in 2012.
